Hello to all my readers. First of all, I apologize myself for not having written anything at all in a month; I have been (and in fact still am) with a slightly peculiar ankle sprain and the truth is that I have not felt like doing absolutely anything.

Today in this post, I want to tell you a little about my sprain, which as I have already told you is a bit peculiar and so in this way, my experience can serve someone who may be going through the same thing.

First things first: what is an ankle sprain and why does it happen to us?

An ankle sprain is an injury that occurs when you bend, twist, or twist your ankle in a strange way. This can stretch or tear the tough bands of tissue (ligaments) that help hold the ankle bones together.

Ligaments help stabilize the joints by preventing excessive movement. Ankle sprain occurs when the ligaments are strained beyond their normal range of motion. Most ankle sprains involve injuries to the ligaments on the outer side of the ankle.

Now .... My experience and my specific case.

Twenty days ago, when I left my job, I felt severe pain when walking and standing. At first it did not seem anything serious, I assumed that it would be tired from work, since as I have many problems with my feet, they were "normal" pain. The next day, I woke up with a very swollen ankle, I could hardly put my foot on the floor and I was in very bad pain. I went to the emergency room quickly. They did some tests and examinations and I did indeed have a sprained ankle. It is important that I make the note that at no time did I fall or hit myself. I told the doctor the same thing, and he told me that the sprain had come from forcing my foot, due to my previous problems that I am now going to explain.

Apart from the sprain, the doctor also told me that I was beginning to have arthritis (Arthritis is the swelling and tenderness of one or more of the joints. The main symptoms of arthritis are joint pain and stiffness, which are usually worsen with age. The most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis (in my case, osteoarthritis) all stemming from my previous problems.

I was born with flat feet (arch of the inside of the foot is flattened, which makes the entire sole of the foot touch the ground when the person is standing.) And with the "chewing gum bones" called vulgarly (exactly I don't know how it is called this problem. What I do know is that it means that the bones are not well supported and can be broken more easily).

To all of this, I have to add that I put my feet in, so when I was just three years old, I had to sleep with a device to straighten my feet. This device was unsuccessful, and when I was ten years old I had surgery on my calcaneus and inserted a screw to hold my bones.

At seventeen, the screw was removed, because it was too small, (my bones had grown) it pricked me, and it seemed that the problem had been solved, although at no time they ruled out having to replace a screw.

Everything has been fine with my feet so far. I have a job in which I have to spend most of my day on my feet, and that is incompatible with all the problems detailed above, because what I do is force my foot, and my bones cannot hold it for so long in a row.

Conclusion and personal advice

If you have any discomfort in your feet, whatever it is, do not hesitate and go to a specialist so that they can examine you and give you a diagnosis as soon as possible. Do not miss it.

Take into account that the feet are the element that keeps our body standing, and if we do not take care of ourselves, we can have problems no matter how old you are.

I say this from experience....
